HBOT Therapy for Motor Vehicle Accidents

October 6, 2020

Have you been in a motor vehicle accident or other type of serious incident in which you are suffering from whiplash, a concussion, and/or a traumatic brain injury?

If so, proper healing is essential to getting back to a normal life free of pain, memory issues, or any other symptoms that can come on immediately or develop days after such an occurrence.

But how does one properly heal from such accidents?

One way to effectively and naturally treat concussions and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (also known as HBOT).

Whether you’ve heard about it before or you never knew it existed, HBOT therapy is becoming a successful way to treat injuries and the KOA Clinic is privileged to offer it to our community.

What does hyperbaric oxygen therapy do?

When an accident injury occurs, there is typically a change around the affected area in which oxygen levels are low and inflammation develops.

When this happens, symptoms such as:

            - headaches

            - stiffness

            - muscle pain

            - dizziness

            - smaller range of motion

            - light and noise sensitivity

            - fatigue

            - insomnia

and other unwanted effects can occur.

This is where HBOT can be helpful in treating that inflammation.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy sends a high dose of oxygen to damaged tissues, encouraging a decrease in inflammation and an increase in healing.

The treatment includes a 60-90 minute session in our FDA approved soft hyperbaric chamber - a roomy chamber that is pressurized to 1.3 ATA, or to the feeling of being approximately 13 feet

underwater. An oxygen mask is provided in the chamber and once pressurized, it can result in

oxygen absorption in the body well above 100% of what you would get breathing oxygen at normal pressure. There’s a window so you can easily see outside the chamber!

Due to this intense oxygenation, HBOT can:

            - lead to decreased inflammation

            - result in faster recovery time

            - provide effective pain and symptom relief

all of which can be crucial to feeling better after an accident.  Depending on the severity of symptoms, recovery can be felt in as little as 5 sessions, but up to 40 sessions may be needed for full effect.

This therapy is safe and generally comfortable.
